About the event

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT ON A HIGHLAND COW TREKKING AND ANIMAL EXPERIENCE? (£60-90)

This experience is for over 16's only, you must have good levels of fitness and mobility to walk a cow, we do not recommend Highland Cow Trekking for anyone who is not confident around large animals, and would suggest the Cow Cuddling experience instead.

When you arrive for your time at Dumble Farm, you will be welcomed by one of the team and given a health and safety briefing, then you will be introduced to your new fluffy friend. Before you accompany your Highland on your adventure together, you will groom her and acquaint yourselves. Dumble Farm staff will show you how to safety hold the lead and explain what to expect on the walk, plus will accompany each Highland in case you let go or feel unsure in any way. A walk with a Highland cow is not a journey from A to B, rather is an experience of how a Highland likes to naturally behave. Your Highland friend will sometimes walk quite briskly, other times saunter along, at all times she will be interested in eating, it’s her favourite thing to do. She will allow you to rest and groom her whilst she munches on grass or pause whilst she browses on hedges or trees. It is likely, especially in the winter, that you will get some sort of dirt on your clothes or footwear. We therefore strongly recommend wellingtons and clothes that you don’t mind getting a bit muddy, just in case. We want everyone to have fun, including of course the cows! Along the walk you will learn how Highlands behave, plus the conservation project on the farm and the part the Highland cows play in it. When you return from your walk and say goodbye to your furry friends, it’s time to meet some more animals. You will meet, feed and stroke our alpacas and goats. This experience will last approximately 1.5-2 hours.
