Dumble Farm Experiences

This private, three-hour, hands-on tour is the only experience where you get to see all the animals here at Dumble Farm! This tour offers lots of close contact time with the animals. Guests are driven around the farm in the comfort of our 7 seat Land Rover Discovery and we will explain about our family’s farming life. One of the farmers, Will, James or Fi, will provide you with a unique opportunity to find out what life is like for a Hull Valley farmer. Learn about our history and conservation project, discuss sustainable food production, plus of course meet lots of our furry four legged friends, After your introduction talk and safety briefing the tour will start with a Highland cow grooming session, our guests will get to meet, groom and cuddle a selection of our younger highland cows You will learn all about your new furry friends, combing their hair, getting to know their different personalities and of course getting plenty of photos, then go to meet our fussy playful goats. Next our guests will be taken in the land rover to the cuddle cow field, where you'll be able to stroke and hug these gentle giants, before been driven through our wildflower fields to the ‘water and woodland’ area, here we are creating a mosaic of habitats, where we will look for insects, birds, amphibians or flora, dependent on the time of year. Then into the wet grassland area that attracts many overwintering wading birds, see how we are developing habitats for these declining species, hear about the history of the area and the way the farm has changed over time. Get up close to our main Highland fold with their young calves (depending on the time of year), with an opportunity to feed them. The cows love to come up to the car and poke their noses through the window so we can feed them snacks. You can find out all about these striking cows with their characterful personalities and see in action the positive environmental role that grass-fed livestock plays in increasing biodiversity. We will have drinks and homemade cake to finish and there will be lots of opportunity for photos. This tour is for adults with interests in Highland cattle and livestock farming, environment and ecology. We recommend suitable footwear and clothing for uneven ground and open countryside.
